From the first time Dr. Kondo described to me his
intention to organize LDA, I felt like it was an
organization with a mission to accomplish good things
for the right reasons for dentists and patients
alike. I believe that LDA is trying to improve the
level of dental care that dentists worldwide are
able to provide by providing dentists access to
unbiased and up-to-date information and technology.
That makes dentists lives easier and more meaningful
and it improves the lives of patients around the
world. Personally, I feel that as human beings we
can strive for nothing more noble or worthy than
to serve other human beings. In the dental industry
we have many opportunities to serve others.
I have been fortunate to work for Ultradent Products,
Inc. for the past seven years in the capacity
of directors of international sales. Coincidentally,
Ultradentナfs mission statement also states that
we are involved in the business of improving dental
care worldwide. In our case, we do so through
products and technique education. LDA will have
the ability to present information from many manufacturers,
opinion leaders, and other authorities in the
dental industry to dentists and patients around
the world. Everyone benefits when they are armed
with as much information as possible?particularly
when that information is presented to them in
an easy-to-access and objective manner.
It is appropriate that LDA was founded in Japan.
So many quality dental material and brilliant
minds from Japan have benefited the worldwide
dental community. I know that LDA plans to educate
on the subject of tooth whitening to Japanese
dentists. This is such an important endeavor.
Tooth whitening is one of the most conservative
and safe dental procedures that dentists can provide
their patients. I have personally witnessed hundreds
of cases of patients whose lives have literally
been changed for the better through tooth whitening.
Patients who never smiled before will smile after
tooth whitening; they will feel more self-esteem,
more confidence. And tooth whitening is good for
the dental practice too. It takes very little
time and makes for very loyal patients. In every
sense, tooth whitening is a ナgwin-winナh procedure.
I expect that through the education that LDA will
provide and greater access by Japanese dentists
to quality bleaching materials, tooth whitening
will become a dental standard in Japan.
LDA is exactly what the dental industry needs.
It has the right mission, for the right reasons,
at the right time.
